An autumn programme inspired by historic tales from Britain and the Middle East.
We open with Elgar's Triumphal March from his cantata Caractacus, a captivating narrative with rich emotive themes and epic majestic energy. Walton's Henry V Suite follows, with his rich orchestration and characterful thematic writing taking us on an evocative musical journey through one of England's great historic tales. In the second half, Rimsky-Korsakov's astonishing Scheherazade, a symphonic suite inspired by the One Thousand and One Nights. Through vivid orchestration, exotic tales of Scheherazade weaving enchanting stories to captivate the Sultan are depicted. A masterpiece of orchestral colour and storytelling.
